What is the typical mentality of the Indian society?

Police officer : Sorry, I think I didn’t hear you right.

Mausi : See, I am just saying for her own good, it is already difficult to find a good groom these days, and with her age and figure, it is gonna be even more difficult to find a good groom for her.

As an Indian girl, if you are unmarried after the age of 30, the society is not gonna spare you and your family. Everywhere you go, you are are going to be taunted and criticized for not finding a husband already and all your achievements and career progress will be overlooked, all the hard work that you’ve done, for yourself and your family will be put into trash because according to society - “Marriage is the only thing a girl should be worried about and that is the only thing which defines her.” And the double standard here is, that a man could be even 50 and unmarried, still he wants to marry a 25 year old girl only.

Mom : Pack it for 400, otherwise I’m going.

Honestly, this obsession with Western culture needs to be stopped, it has reached such an extent now that people have forgotten Indian culture. Our beautiful Indian culture needs to be remembered and cherished, if all this continues then that day is not far when we would have been totally cut off from our roots and just like no tree can survive without its roots, similarly no nation can thrive if the people are not connected to their roots, their culture and sanskriti.

Have you ever had a bad gut feeling about someone and it was right?

A man filing a complaint at the police station.

Tears and emotions are not gender defined people. Anyone can feel the need to cry or the need for a support then why are men, who express their emotion looked down upon.

Lady : No miss, I am standing in the right line, I know very well which one is my line.

I am not criticizing English here, at all, English is a global language and should be learnt by all to communicate with people from different countries. But if someone from India wants to talk to someone else from India in any regional language, be it, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, Marathi, anything, and both the parties involved, know the language, then what’s the necessity to talk in English ? Why can’t they simply communicate in the regional language ?

Mom : Arey, no need for that, you have just come home all tired from office and now you want to help your wife with the household chores. Men don’t do all this work. Come and chat with your sister, she has come home after such a long time.

Police officer : Brother, I can’t do that, the domestic violence complaint is for WOMEN.

The craze for speaking English these days, damn, I tell you. From school to office to everywhere, we are expected to speak so fluently in English and anybody not doing this is considered illiterate, not having class, uncouth and whatnot. As if Hindi speaker now, don’t have a place in the society. In school we are taught to say only Good morning to teachers and “Hi” and “Hello” to friends if any child says phrases like “Hare Krishna” or “Ram Ram”, the criticism and laughs he/she has to face, is just pitiful.

How can the citizens of Russia accept the enormous difference between people? The richest 500 Russians own more than the poorest 99.8% of the entire Russian population combined. Why don't we see any protests?

See the double standards here ? This is the story of most of the households, around us.

“Oh, she left her in laws’ home and came to live with her parents, her mother hasn’t given any sanskar”

Girl 1 to Girl 2 : Yeah, as if people like her can afford a business class ticket, I’m sure she is in economy, it must be her first time travelling and she wouldn’t even be knowing of the different classes in a plane. Proceeds to call an airline staff member.

Man : No, I am.

And what the heck was even her fault ? That she went out late at night, to do what, probably her job ? Probably for some important work ……. yes, maybe it was her fault that she didn’t remember what kind of a male dominant society did she live in, one which only blames girls for whatever happens,

DIL : But…..

Police officer : Who is the victim, your sister?

Uncle B : How are we going to face the society now ?

How many times have we all heard this ? Why, just why, are girls always at fault, why can’t anybody ever see the boys’ faults. And I’m not saying that it is always the boys’ faults, many a times even girls are at fault but if the boys are at fault then also why are the girls blamed.

Our society has reached a sad state that everybody now, is judged and stereotyped based on their appearance and if by mistake somebody wears Indian traditional clothes like saree and suit, Oh God, they are considered to be so illiterate, having no class, etc. etc. The mindset is that one who wears jeans top, middy etc., and western clothes like these is sophisticated an classy and rest everyone is just uncouth.

Man : Yes, I am the victim, my wife beats me very much. I want to lodge a complaint of domestic violence against her.

At a random relative’s wedding

Mom : It’s because of your phone.

Mausi : Ahh okay, nice, nice. Now don’t mind me, but take care of her a little, she how fat she has become, and she is already 30 now, shouldn’t she be married already?

Amy : )

Son : I’m going to help her.

Man : Please file a complaint for DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

A random Mausi : Hey, what is your daughter doing these days ?

These days, when the cases of women, harassing men for money in the name of domestic violence and abuse are increasing so much, men too need the support of the law to defend themselves.

Scene - 6 :

Me : Mom, I am having a headache.

Aunty B : Of course, that’s when boys are attracted. It will not happen if they leave home in proper clothes.

Shopkeeper : Mam, 800 Rs.

Then, her daughter in law comes home from office with her husband.

Daughter : Mom, my mother in law is very bad, she always makes me do all the household chores, I come home, all tired from office and then have to take care of all the housework also, she doesn’t even let my husband help me, even if he wants to. And she doesn’t even let me come home whenever I wish to.

People are becoming more open to a gender equal society

In this male - dominated society of ours, men are always supposed to be macho men, strong men who can’t cry, can’t express their emotions and can’t express themselves.

Applicant 1 : Gives a beautiful answer, along with all the stats and details, but in Hindi.

Staff : Okay mam, I’ll go and check.

The difference in behaviour the mom has, for her own daughter and for DIL.

A mother and daughter are sitting in the living room of their home and chatting.

Girl 1: You see that lady there, she seems to be in the wrong line, she should be in the economy one.

This fear of society, that every Indian lives with, where was this society when that poor girl was being r*ped and torture, why didn’t they come to save her? To save her, to support her, to empower her? Why did they turn a blind eye to everything the girl was going through and then suddenly came forward to blame her ?

“Men don’t need a shoulder for support”

Mom : It’s because of your phone.

Mom : It’s because of your phone.

Our traditional clothes like saree are being worn across the world

Mom : Yeah, yeah, you’re right, we’ll think about it soon.

But there’s one thing I would like to say,

Lady to girls : I am the co founder and CEO of XXX MNC, you can look it up on Google, so yes I can definitely afford a Business class ticket and the next time you decide to make comments on anybody just based on their appearance, do think twice about it. May you have a good day.

Scene - 2 :

How often have men heard this ?

Interviewer : Okay fine, go ahead.

Mom : So, what do I do it was your decision to continue your job, I told you to leave it, you only said that you can manage both home and office, now do it !

Me : Mom, I am having a stomach ache.

My mom : She is working at XXX Company, her package is good.

The status of regional languages is improving a lot

Interviewer : Because you don’t know how to speak fluent English, that’s why you answered all the questions in Hindi. We need somebody absolutely fluent in English for the job, to hold meetings with our overseas clients.

Scene - 7 :

Police officer : Well, that’s how the system works, I am sorry, I can’t do anything to help you.

Police officer : Brother, we deal with real cases here. You are a man, be a man, how can your wife hit you, huh ?

But what about the man who has always been taught by his mother to respect women and never raise hand on any girl, whatever might be the situation ? How does he defend himself ?The society doesn’t support him, the law doesn’t support him, even his own family doesn’t support him, whom should he turn to for help?

Mom : Give it to me for 200 Rs.

Staff to Lady : Hello mam, there seems to be some issue, could I please have a look at your ticket ?

Shopkeeper : Okay mam, take it.

Mom : Don’t worry darling, I’ll talk to them, my daughter is not their maid and how can they disallow her from coming back to her own home.

Interview at an XXX Indian MNC :

DIL : Maaji, at least let me sit for a while, I have just come home, after a very tiring day at office.

Mom : Bhaiya, what is the price of this suit ?

So let this new generation of ours use this education and knowledge which we are gaining for some good purpose in the society. Let’s use it, to bring a change to the patriarchal mindset of the society, regarding various social norms and let’s normalize the things which are right but don’t fit into the current social norms.

The husband obeys his mother and sits down. After some time, when the DIL arrives from the kitchen along with a tray full of tea and snacks.

Mom : Great, now make preparations for the dinner too, make all of my daughter’s favourite dishes.

Mom : Arey…..it’s been so many years since your marriage and you still want to go home every year for Rakhi, now who will prepare the food and take care of the house while you’re gone, I can’t do everything at this age and my daughter has just come home. No need to go home this year.

“Oh, she had a divorce, and the husband was cheating on her, she must have not served him enough”

Someone please make these insolent people understand that the girl has been r*ped for God sake, she is literally fighting for her life there and you all here, instead of supporting her parents in their difficult time, are busy criticizing and taunting the girl.

“You’re a man, fight back”

“Oh, the marriage was called off, the girl must have done something, she must be having an affair with somebody”

Mom : Where are you going son ?

Okay so the last two were to end this answer on a lighter note.

Me : Mom, I feel tired, I have anxiety and depression.

Mom : She wants to focus on her career for a few years, then she will think about marriage.

Our regional languages have a rich history and extensive literature, often predating English. Why, then, do we look down on those who speak these languages? These individuals may be scholars in their native tongues, so why are they considered illiterate and uncouth?

Thought the instances I mentioned above are common to most of Indians, but it is not right to categorize all of us as one, we all are different, we have different cultures and different upbringings. Though there are many flaws in our patriarchal mindset, but I’m glad to say that the society is changing now,

Man : She becomes very violent sometimes, you please file a complaint against her.

Thank you so much everyone for reading this answer, I hope you like it.

Typical Indian mentality says, that if anything is wrong with you, according to your parents, your phone is the one and only cause.

Scene - 1 :

Girl 1: Hey aunty, I think you’re in the wrong line, the economy line is that way.

Applicant 1: Sir, sir, could I please ask you something ? Just one moment sir.

Aunty B : Why on Earth did you even allow her to leave home so late at night ?

The husband proceeds to help her

Mom : It’s because of your phone.

Lady : (Clearly upset), sure no problem, here.

Mom : It’s because of your phone.

The social condition of r*pe survivors has improved greatly

Aunty A : She doesn’t even wear saree and suit, madam only wants to wear jeans top.

Mom : No buts, no means no ! End of topic.

Aunty A : Now how are we going to find a groom for this girl ? We are doomed, now no one is going to marry her !!

Scene -5 :

Me : Mom, I scored less marks.

And beaten by wife ? That can’t even be a statement dammit, how the heck are you a man if you are beaten by your wife, slap her back, punish her, instill your fear in her, that’s what the society says.

“Oh, you are not able to have a child, the girl must be infertile”

Interviewer : Applicant 2, you are hired.

Shopkeeper : Mam, nothing less than a 700.

After the interview gets over :

Interviewer : Thank you so much, Applicant 2 your turn now.

Mom to DIL : Oh good, you have come at the right time. My daughter has also come home today, go and make some tea for all of us.

Applicant 1: (Smiles and says in very fluent English) Oh sir, so that’s the only reason. I thought I lacked some capability for the job. I always give all my interviews in Hindi because I hold immense respect for my mother tongue and my roots, I want the company to hire me for my abilities and achievements and not for my linguistic skills. And yes, who said I can’t speak English. I can, very well speak fluently in English. Thank you so much for your time.

When the daughter’s husband doesn’t help her, she doesn’t like it but she wouldn’t even allow her own son to help his wife. Isn’t this such a hypocritic behaviour and what the heck is the problem with men doing household chores, if the women can work outside and then do household chores then why can’t men do the same. Why is the thought of a man doing household chores glorified so much, it’s a job, if men can do the same work for pay then why not without pay, at home ? Why is the DIL always expected to manage everything alone, without any support ?

A girl named X is a r*pe survivor, this is the conversation between her relatives and her parents, when she is in the ICU flighting for her life.

And “Leaving the job part”, why, just why, is a girl expected to leave the job, the career that she had parents had worked so hard for, put in as much efforts as the boys and just sit at home to be an ideal DIL and take care of the in laws and children. Why ?

Applicant 2 : Gives a very vague answer, tells nothing about the stats, not many details, nothing about his contribution, but, uses great English vocabulary words in his answer.\

Instead of blaming the girls, why don’t we teach our boys some values and tell them to respect every girl like their own sister and mother so that no girl has to go through such atrocities ever again ! Why are their mistakes always overlooked just because they are “ghar ka kudeepak.”

If the mother here, being a mother to her daughter, wants her daughter’s MIL to take care of her daughter and respect her demands and choices then should she also, being a MIL to her DIL, do the same for her ? Why the double standards ?
